For the fourth year in a row, the U.S. Embassy in Prague was a supporter of Prague Pride, which took place the week of August 11-17. The theme of this year’s Pride was “East Meets West.” The goal was to give people from countries less open to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community the opportunity to see and experience a society that is more accepting.
There were over 100 events planned as part of Pride week, and Embassy Prague was pleased to participate in several. The U.S. Embassy’s Gloriette was illuminated again with rainbow colors as part of the official opening ceremony on the evening of the 11th. The American Center showed the films Milk and Rent. We also hosted apanel discussion in the American Center with LGBT members of the diplomatic corps who talked about the challenges they face as diplomats serving around the world. Members of the Prague Embassy participated in the Prague Pride Parade.
