Statement on Attack that Killed Czech Soldiers in Afghanistan

It is with the most profound sadness that I learned of the death of four Czech soldiers today near Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. On behalf of the people of the United States I extend our deepest sympathies to their families and friends, and to the Czech nation. We also pray for the quick recovery of those wounded in the attack.

As I told Chief of the General Staff Petr Pavel in a telephone call this morning, the United States stands in this difficult time with our Czech friends and allies, and the many others working shoulder-to-shoulder with Afghan partners toward our shared goal of a sovereign, stable, secure, and democratic Afghanistan.

We remember all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan and honor the memory and sacrifice of these fallen Czech warriors. May God bless the fallen and all those who serve.
