How to establish an integrated treatment protocol for obesity and diabetes?

The U.S. Embassy hosted a seminar organized by the Institute for Public Discussion where leading Czech doctors, representatives of the Ministry of Health, insurance companies and international obesity centers had an opportunity to discuss issues and remedies for obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Ambassador Stephen B. King, Commercial Counselor Christina Sharkey and other distinguished guests had an opportunity to learn more about the topics from top Czech medical specialists including Martin Prázný and Martin Matoulek, General Faculty Hospital Prague; Mojmír Kasalický, General Military Hospital Prague; and Ignace Janssen, The Dutch Obesity Clinic (NOK)

Presentations were followed by a panel discussion featuring Štěpán Svačina, Czech Medical Society; Lenka Poliaková, Ministry of Health; Zdeňka Salcman Kučerová, ZPMV Health Insurance Company; Martin Hrubý, Liberec Regional Hospital; and Pavel Hroboň, Advance Healthcare Management Institute. The discussion was moderated by Miroslav Palát, CzechMed.

Extreme obesity is not only a medical problem but also a social and economic challenge. It is considered to be the epidemic of the 21st century. Based on World Health Organization data up to 3,000,000 people worldwide die because of extreme obesity every year.
