Meet the Prague Office Scientists
Appointed S&T Attachés by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton For This Assignment
Dr. John C. Zimmerman, Ph.D.
John Zimmerman is Associate Director in the ONR Global office in Prague, Czech Republic. He was previously with ONR Global as the Director, International Liaison Office, ONR Headquarters, and at ONR Global – London. He most recently worked with CRDF Global, Arlington, VA, a non-profit international science and technology foundation, and taught physics at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA.
Dr. Zimmerman was a Senior Scientist at SAIC and later worked at the Science and Technology Center, Kiev, Ukraine, on issues concerning the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the Former Soviet Union. After a year in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, on a Fulbright Scholarship and then returning to the US to earn a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, Dr. Zimmerman became a Foreign Service Officer with postings to Bucharest, Moscow (twice) and Istanbul, in addition to assignments in Washington, DC. His languages are Russian, Turkish, Romanian and German. He and his wife, Evelyn, have two grandchildren.
Dr. Charles J. Holland
Charles J. Holland brings over 35 years’ experience in research and science and technology program management in academia and government. His government assignment prior to Prague was at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) where he focused on advanced computing architectures both for supercomputing and the embedded space.
His present assignment: to serve as the ONRG Prague Office Technical Lead and to research and report on innovative S&T developed in Central and Eastern Europe and to pursue opportunities for international cooperation.
