A dozen U.S. Embassy Prague cyclists spent April 22 retracing the route that General Patton’s Third Army Division took when liberating the region seventy years ago. The group visited the towns of Domazlice, Horsovsky Tyn, Holysov and Dobrany, and finished their ride at the “Thank You, America” monument in Plzen.
American Center Director Nick von Mertens said it was a great opportunity to learn about the history of the region, talk with local residents and commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Western Bohemia from the Nazis. He also noted that the bike ride took place on Earth Day and that the U.S. Embassy supports sustainable transport.
Before the ride started, the embassy cyclists talked to students from Domazlice Gymnazium, and they also met with representatives from local municipalities in towns they visited.
