U.S. Ambassador Andrew Schapiro participated at a September 27 event presenting the results of a test of molten salts in the nuclear reactor in the Rez Nuclear Research Institute (UJV) just outside Prague city limits. The test was conducted under a memorandum of understanding for scientific cooperation between Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee and the Nuclear Research Institute (UJV) Rez.
“We really believe that having safe affordable reliable energy is in all of our interest. We want to see diversification of energy sources, … and we would like to see safer nuclear power. The Czech-U.S. nuclear cooperation is excellent: the experts at UJV and ORNL are leaders in their field,” said Ambassador Schapiro.
Scientific teams from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and UJV Rez started a bilateral collaborative project on Fluoride Salt Cooled High Temperature Reactors (FHRs) and Molten Salt Reactors (MSR) in 2009.
