On Saturday, May 13, Chargé d’Affaires Kelly Adams-Smith participated in the traditional commemorative ceremony honoring the Romani victims of the Holocaust at the site of the Lety Memorial. The event, organized annually by the Committee for the Redress of the Roma Holocaust, brought together survivors of Nazi camps and the relatives of victims who perished in them.
The ceremony was attended by the Human Rights Minister Jan Chvojka, Culture Minister Daniel Herman, Czech government and parliamentary officials, ambassadors and other dignitaries of several embassies.
In her remarks, Chargé d ’Affaires Kelly Adams-Smith said: “It’s important to hold commemorations like this; to remember and honor the victims. We can also honor them by rededicating ourselves to ensuring that every Roma is treated with dignity… I applaud the government’s commitment to resolve the issue of the pig farm and build a dignified memorial. Let’s hope that this important step is taken this year.”
