U.S. Ambassador Andrew Schapiro joined Minister for Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Jiri Dienstbier during a visit to the city of Kadan in Northwest Bohemia on April 22. Together with officials from the Agency for Social Inclusion, they met representatives of the local socially excluded area in Prunerov populated predominantly by Roma, and a vocational school in downtown Kadan that is a good example of inclusion of students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.
“The U.S. Embassy wants to continue to work closely with the government and the NGO community, to do all it can to make sure that groups of all kinds can share in the benefits of prosperity and growth,” said Ambassador Schapiro at a meeting with local journalists.
In the afternoon, Mayor Jiri Kulhanek showed the Ambassador around the historic center of Kadan, highlighting the economic developments since the Velvet Revolution.
