Ambassador King Visits the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry

On July 16, Ambassador King visited the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The Institute has established a long-term cooperation with the American biopharmaceutical company, Gilead Sciences, concerning research, development, and the distribution of novel pharmaceuticals. The Institute and Gilead Sciences established a joint research center on July 13, 2006.

Ambassador King also visited the former office of the renowned Czech chemist Antonin Holy, whose most influential discoveries have yielded successful treatments for AIDS and type B viral hepatitis. Dr. Holý held over 60 patents and co-authored 600 scientific papers.
